United Methodist Personal Investment Plan

Personal Investment Plan

The United Methodist Personal Investment Plan (UMPIP) is a 403(b) retirement savings plan administered by Wespath to help you save money or retirement.

Eligible clergy and lay employees can make contributions as a percentage of compensation through payroll deduction or in flat-dollar amounts up to Internal Revenue Code limits. Contributions may be made on a before-tax, Roth, and/or after-tax basis through payroll deductions.

Virginia Conference clergy appointed at least 50% to local churches are automatically eligible to make contributions to UMPIP.

Lay employees of Virginia Conference churches may be eligible to make contributions to UMPIP if the local church has agreed to sponsor the plan for their lay employees.

Highlights of UMPIP can be found here.

A detailed overview of UMPIP can be found in the Summary Plan Description.

The UMPIP Contribution Elections Form can be found here. Please note that contribution elections are specific to each church. Clergy who receive an appointment to a new church need to complete a new Contribution Elections Form and submit that to the church staff that handles clergy payroll.
